Air Algérie Launches Direct Flights to Guangzhou and Rotterdam, Strengthening their Tourism and Economic Ties with Asia and Europe

Air Algérie, the flag carrier of Algeria, inaugurated two new long-haul routes: Algiers to Guangzhou, China, and Algiers to Rotterdam, Netherlands. These first flights to Guangzhou and Rotterdam, operated respectively on October 27 and 28, 2025, represent an important milestone within the Company’s international growth plans, aiming to affirm Algeria’s position as a key player in regional and international aviation. This will help boost tourism, business travel, and trade relations between Algeria and two of the most important commercial hubs in the world. Data on the timing of these flights has been added.

With the launch of these new routes, Air Algérie is making strides in enhancing its air connectivity between North Africa, Asia, and Europe, opening up new opportunities for travelers and businesses alike. The direct flight to Guangzhou, one of China’s largest economic centers, will provide a crucial link between Algeria and China, facilitating stronger trade exchanges in sectors such as mining, agriculture, renewable energy, and manufacturing. The service also opens the door to China’s vast tourism market, with many Chinese travelers now able to visit Algeria’s cultural and historical sites, including the M’Zab Valley, Algerian Roman ruins, and Algiers’ UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Rotterdam–Algiers route strengthens Algeria’s connections with Northern Europe, a region that is increasingly important for business and tourism. The Netherlands is a key partner for Algeria, particularly in energy and logistics. Rotterdam, home to one of Europe’s largest ports, plays a significant role in facilitating trade flows between Europe and Africa. The new route will support business exchanges, helping Algerian companies expand into Northern European markets while attracting European investors into Algeria’s growing sectors.

Both new routes will significantly enhance the ease of international travel between Algeria, China, and the Netherlands, promoting tourism and cultural exchanges between these regions, and fostering economic growth through greater connectivity.

As Algeria works to position itself as a premier tourism destination in North Africa, the new routes are expected to have a significant impact on inbound tourism. The direct flights to Guangzhou and Rotterdam will encourage more European and Asian tourists to visit Algeria’s world-class destinations, which offer a unique combination of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and adventure tourism.

Tourists will have access to Algeria’s ancient archaeological sites, such as the Roman ruins of Timgad and Djemila, the Saharan desert landscapes, and the beautiful Mediterranean coastline. The country’s mountainous landscapes, wildlife reserves, and seaside resorts offer tourists a range of eco-tourism and adventure travel opportunities.

In particular, the Guangzhou to Algiers route will likely encourage more Chinese travelers to visit Algeria’s hidden gems, including its cultural villages and heritage sites, which are relatively unexplored by international tourism. Similarly, the Rotterdam to Algiers route will cater to European tourists interested in exploring Algeria’s historical sites, traditional markets, and local gastronomy. As global interest in cultural tourism and eco-tourism continues to grow, these new air links will make Algeria more accessible to an even broader audience.

The new air routes are expected to have a direct economic impact on Algeria’s tourism sector, which has been recovering steadily over the past few years. As the number of tourists and business travelers increases, demand for local services such as hotels, restaurants, transportation, and tour guides will rise, creating significant employment opportunities and economic benefits for local communities.

The increased number of international arrivals will also help support the country’s hospitality industry, encouraging further investments in tourism infrastructure and accommodation facilities. The new flights are anticipated to enhance tourism revenues, contributing to the broader economic growth of Algeria and helping local businesses tap into the international market.

Moreover, the new air connections will likely stimulate growth in regional tourism, with more travelers able to explore Algeria’s diverse regions, such as the Mediterranean coastline, the Saharan desert, and the mountainous areas of Kabylie and Aurès. This aligns with Algeria’s goal of promoting sustainable and inclusive tourism that provides long-term economic benefits to local communities while preserving the country’s natural and cultural heritage.

The new long-haul routes to Guangzhou and Rotterdam are part of Air Algérie’s broader strategy to expand its international network and position Algiers as a regional air transport hub. The airline plans to continue increasing its global reach by adding more destinations in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East over the coming years.

The airline’s strategic expansion into Asia and Europe also aligns with Algeria’s push to become a more prominent tourism destination and economic hub in Africa. With direct air links to China and Northern Europe, Air Algérie aims to improve the efficiency of air travel in the region, making it easier for both business travelers and tourists to access Algeria’s key attractions.

Direct flights to Guangzhou and Rotterdam mark a very significant milestone in the growth of Air Algérie and Algeria’s tourism industry. Offering enhanced connectivity and access between Algeria and global markets, these new routes will foster tourism and trade while bringing with them many welcome economic opportunities for local businesses and communities. Further development plans will be part of the larger vision of placing Algeria as the regional aviation hub and leading tourism destination within North Africa, hence brightening the future of the travel and tourism industries in the country.
